I have been saying for a long time that I think a split in the Methodist denomination is probably inevitable. It's nice to see someone agree that it goes much deeper than just the issue of homosexuality, which is where most of the tension lies. The cause of the homosexuality debate point to much deeper and much more important issues. It goes to issues of authority of scriputre, absolute truth, the virgin birth, the resurrection, the Trinity, and the message of the gospel. Renfro gives his own list. What other areas of tension within the UMC can you think of?
