Signs, Powers, and Wonders

In New Testament Greek, particularly the Book of John the word sign is also used. Jesus performed these signs to point to the fact that He is divine.

The word miracle does not exist in the Bible, unless you read an English translation such as the NIV. There is no single Greek word for miracle. There are three different Greek words that are generally translated miracle in different English translations. They are signs, powers, and wonders.

In Old Testament Hebrew the words sign and wonder were used to point people to God. Both words mean the same thing, and are generally used together. In New Testament Greek, particularly the Book of John the word sign is also used. Jesus performed these signs to point to the fact that He is divine.
