The Gospel According to...Judas?

This “Gospel” states that Jesus requested that Judas turn Jesus into the Romans. Judas was not a traitor, but was following the orders of Jesus Himself.

The National Geographic Channel is going to air The Lost Gospels of Judas on Palm Sunday. It seems that every year about this time there are new documentaries that surface that claim that the church has been suppressing the truth or has been misguided for the past 2,000 years.

The manuscript was found in the 1970s, and it has taken many years to put the fragments together and study the significance. For a brief history of the document, see wikipedia.org. This “Gospel” states that Jesus requested that Judas turn Jesus into the Romans. Judas was not a traitor, but was following the orders of Jesus Himself.

ABC News Primetime also did a special last night on the Gospel. I was pleased to see Dr. Ben Witherington on the show. He keeps a blog that I read consistently, and I like his thoughts. I will be looking forward to what he has to say to help me make some sense out of this. For right now, (I am still learning and researching) I think the significance is small, and it’s the media trying to put a new spin on things like they do every year around Easter.
